N.C. Democrats Take Aim At Sen. Burr's Plans To Revise Medicare, Social Security
Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer: Senate Candidate Ross Attacks Incumbent Burr On Medicare, Social Security Benefits
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Deborah Ross swung at Republican incumbent Sen. Richard Burr during a visit to Fayetteville on Thursday by saying he is bad for Medicare and Social Security. "He has voted to cut Social Security -- in favor of cutting Social Security," Ross said to a friendly, Democratic leaning audience of about 25 at the North Regional Public Library. "And he has written his own plan to privatize Medicare and give it to the insurance companies and raise the age" of eligibility. Ross is wrong, according to spokeswoman Taylor Holgate of Burr's senatorial office. "Sen. Burr has a strong record of voting to protect Social Security and the benefits of retirees. Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal: NC Democrats Rally In Winston-Salem Against Sen Richard Burr's Medicare Plan
The N.C. Democratic Party on Thursday took aim at Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr’s four-year-old proposal on Medicare in hopes of appealing to seniors, one of the most active voting blocs, and boosting former state legislator Deborah Ross, a Raleigh Democrat. State party officials organized a rally that attracted about 30 people in front of an office building on the corner of Miller Street and First Street, where Burr keeps a field office. ... Democrats at the rally said Burr’s proposal, in their view, would make seniors pay more for health coverage, leave them with less comprehensive coverage and raise the eligibility age.
